I have been doing an overdue ‘spring clean’ of my computer, deleting old files, creating new filing systems etc and I came across a vision board (shown below) that I created in 2019, shortly after we had completed our business re-brand.
As I looked at it, and reminded myself of where I was 5 years ago, I was amazed, and delighted, to see that I had achieved all that I had hoped for on this board. In fact, I had just completed the last piece of the ‘vision board puzzle’ – my target weight!
A second more detailed vision board of a house and garden project had also been achieved.
My vision boards had worked!
Indeed, creating something visual that encapsulates all that you want to achieve, in as much detail as possible, is a fantastic technique for many reasons. It provides:
- A method for blending work and personal goals to ensure you remain balanced across all areas of your life
- A way of experimenting with different ideas to find the ones that feel ‘right’
- Clarity making it easier to:
- share with others
- get them to be part of the journey
- be accountable
- Motivation through triggering emotions such as anticipation, excitement and joy that will drive you forward
- A reference point and prompt for taking action, creating a plan and measuring progress
Creating a vision board is a great start point for setting goals and the process can be more creative, fun and inspiring than writing them down – why not do it both ways for maximum impact.
So what’s the best way to create a vision board?
There’s lots of ways to do this so choose the medium that is easiest, most fun and appealing to you. Examples include:
- Cut out pictures from magazines, use photos or other physical items and stick them on a physical board
- Create a powerpoint with different slides for different elements
- Use creative online tools, such as Canva or Pinterest ,where you can use templates or glean ideas from others
For maximum impact, when you have created it, place it somewhere prominent where you will see it regularly – on the fridge or next to your work space are great places for displaying important messages.
Let’s get started!
Why not use the vibrant energy of spring to think about the life that you want to live and put together a vision board.
TIP: As you look at your board, notice if there are any bits that don’t feel right and adjust them until it feels really good. Keep it dynamic and add to it whenever you like. This will keep the energy flowing.
