Happy New Year! Welcome to 2021 and our first newsletter! We aim to bring you news, views, reviews, unseen content, fun & games, and a run-through of what’s happening at Sanderstead CC – all delivered in typical SCCTV style. And why not?
Round up
What a strange season we’ve had! Indoor nets last February were going really well with lots of new players looking to impress the new 1st XI captain (Simon Carter), new Chairman, Russ Carter (Simon’s brother), and new Club Captain, Dan Udall (ex-1st XI captain). Then COVID struck…
Ground Prep
At Sanderstead CC we actively encourage our younger members to get involved in all aspects of club activity and we are blessed to have a great bunch of younger players – many of them sons of Sanderstead stalwarts – who want to get stuck in. Becoming a groundsman…
During a late season friendly featuring a “codger-heavy” 5th XI, we asked some of the players about various ailments they have to contend with whilst also navigating the art of playing cricket, and life in general, as the years advance. Here’s a 5 minute video featuring the voices of club stalwarts…
Ideas for Staying Positive After 2020!
Idea # 1: Watch our best videos (again!) in a specially prepared playlist of some of Dan’s favourites from the last 3 years. There’s something for everybody in this list of 10 great matches including top notch 1st XI league games, Sunday “Village” matches, Development games and even a T20 from the Hertfordshire Village tournament played on the hottest day ever in the UK which had a finish identical to England’s famous World Cup victory! All captured in true Dan Allen style to reflect the best of grass roots cricket in the UK. Enjoy…
Idea # 2: Blow away the 2020 clouds with this simple way to increase your optimism for a sunnier outlook in 2021 – whether for cricket, family, work, or life in general. Get an email a day to ‘train your brain’ to be more positive – simply choose a 7 day or 30 Day Optimism Challenge. Try it out – it really works!
Idea # 3: Grab a camera in 2021 and start filming cricket. Help your club to build its profile through video and social media like we have at Sanderstead CC. The benefits are great and it’s easy to do. Our cameraman Dan Allen has created an online course to help get you started. See the film below to find out more or sign-up here.
People and clubs from Japan, Netherlands Australia, NZ, Canada and up and down the UK are already using the course which shows you the basics of what to film, how to edit, what gear to use and how to build your YouTube channel and grow your fan-base to help your club. And why not?

In each newsletter we will bring you a little piece of Sanderstead CC history – sadly not always on film! This edition features a throwback to September 2005 and a legendary “thriller” game against Kenley CC…
It was the final Surrey Championship 2nd XI Div 4 league match of 2005 and a win would see Sanderstead promoted to Div 3. Kenley CC (or was it Southern Railway & Kenley CC?), our opposition, had other ideas as they were staring down the barrel of relegation to Div 5!
Sanderstead 2nd XI were…

As a regular SCCTV YouTube viewer and comment maker, Dan invited me to make a contribution to the SandersteadCCTV newsletter. Some cricketing anecdotes from my career, perhaps, ones not necessarily focused around the consumption of beer.
As the wind…
